Survival expert Doug Ritter has teamed up with Ethan Becker to design a heavy duty fixed blade, suitable for field or combat use. The Doug Ritter RSK Mk2 Perseverance Survival Knife, unlike the RSK Mk1 is no EDC (Every Day Carry) candidate, but it will be a good blade for your Bug Out Bag.
The Doug Ritter RSK Mk2 Perseverance is a solid knife, almost a foot in length (11.375 inches /28.89 cm) with a 6-inch (15.24 cm) drop point blade. The blade is made from a solid block of 1095 steel, hardened to 57 HRC. Do note that 1095 is not rust-resistant, so you need to take care of it. The handle is made from black molded Swiss GV6H thermoplastic polymer.
Yes, this is one of the big knives. The photo below compares the size of the Doug Ritter RSK Mk2 Perseverance (middle) versus Becker Knife & Tool BK2 (top) and BK&T BK10 (bottom).
Doug Ritter RSK Mk2 Perseverance is currently being made in a limited edition of 100 knives. This knife will set you back $125 (with lifetime warranty) and is available now for pre-order from Knifeworks. The knife has been delayed for a couple of months, and is now expected to ship at the end of March 2011.
