It’s a brand new year, so we’re starting a brand new section of Survival Today, called Step By Step Survival. Preparing for disasters and emergencies can seem like an intimidating task, especially if you’re a beginner. What if you can start for as little as $5 a week? That’s $1 every weekday.
Here’s how it works. From Monday to Friday, you put $1 in a jar / container. Every Saturday, during your weekly trips to the market / supermarket / convenience store, you use the $5 to buy specific items. Some weeks you may end up spending a little bit less, some weeks you may end up a little bit more. You need to be disciplined and make sure you don’t use the money for anything else.
What to buy? We’ll let you know, just check back with us every Saturday. You are free to substitute any of the items with food that you prefer, in case you have certain allergies and food restrictions.
At the end of this year, if you should have quite a nice stockpile of food and supplies available. Here’s our target :
700lbs of wheat
240 lbs sugar
40 lbs of powdered milk
13 lbs of salt
10 lbs of honey
5 lbs of peanut butter
45 cans of tomato soup
32 cans mushroom soup
15 cans tuna
10 macaroni and cheese dinners
730 multiple vitamins
This should be enough to sustain 2 people for a year.
We have this week off, start saving and we’ll see you next week.
