The previous weekend was a long weekend, with Monday being a public holiday. However, instead of a relaxing time, the weekend started badly with a landslide near Bukit Antarabangsa, Ampang. The landslide claimed the lives of 4 people, destroyed many homes, and left thousands of people stranded when a road was blocked. To make matters worse, the rain never stopped over the weekend. Both electricity and water supply was disrupted until Monday.
The local authorities, supported by the military, managed to evacuate most of the people affected. Since the road was blocked, people had to leave on foot carrying only minimal belongings with them.
This happened very near me, just 5 minutes’ drive away from my house. So I have a lot to be thankful for, since we escaped a fairly major disaster. The incident also reminded me to look at my disaster preparations.
My project next weekend will be to prepare bug out bags for my wife and kids. I’ll document the process in this blog, as I will be buying most of the items for the bug out bags from a nearby supermarket / hypermarket.
