How do you conserve energy, remain alert and stay productive during a disaster situation? It’s probably unthinkable to even take a rest. Instead of having the usual 8 hours to sleep, plan ahead and take naps instead. The Boston Globe has an excellent guide to taking naps. Did you know that a nap of 60 minutes can improve alertness for up to 10 hours?

Another excellent tip is to drink coffee immediately before a 20 minute nap. When you wake up, the caffeine will kick in and this will increase your alertness even more.
