2007 – the hottest year ever?

In 2006, temperatures all over the world soared to record highs. This year is set to be even warmer. The UK Metrological Office has predicted that there is a 60% chance that the average surface temperature will match or exceed the current record from 1998. The primary source of the excess heat is from the El Nino weather event — there is already a moderate strength El Nino in the Pacific Ocean at the moment.

Happy New Year!

2006 has been an interesting and challenging year. There have been more disasters, natural and man-made, than ever before. At the same time, awareness for urban survival and emergency preparedness have increased, especially in the mainstream media (witness the success of the Jericho TV series).
