Today is the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 bombing, and you simply can’t escape the media coverage. The world is now a much different place, but it’s not any safer. How likely are you to be directly affected by an act of terrorism? Wired has an interesting chart, colour-coded according to the US government’s alert system. Terrorism is low (at 3,147 deaths) – just behind “Being shot by law enforcement” (3,949). At the highest Severe Level, we have Driving off the road (254,419), Falling (146,542) and Accidental poisoning (140,327).
