If you feel you are safe from the Bird Flu outbreak, think again. The map above shows the number of countries affected by the deadly bird flu (H5N1) virus. An area uncomfortably close to where I live had a scare lately (confirmed virus in chickens, but not humans), so it could happen anywhere.

A few days ago, I received The Ultimate Survival Tool Kit by Survival Incorporated, which I bought from eBay. The kit that I bought was the NRA version, which is identical to the retail version except for one item. Over the weekend I went to the seaside to test the kit.

The US Department of Homeland Security has a website to educate children on emergency preparedness, called Ready Kids. The site is definitely kid-friendly, with a family of mountain lions (!) sharing the facts through quizzes, Flash animation, games and comics. There are sections on making a survival kit, a family emergency plan, and general knowledge on disasters.
